DFI Reflections Week 1 Manaiakalani Core Business

Manaiakalani Inspiration.

Kia Ora Koutou

Today, I had my first experience of the Digital Fluency Intensive PD provided by the Manaiakalani Team. The title alone was enough to make me feel just a little worried. So this morning I woke feeling rather nervous and apprehensive about what the day had installed for me, however, I needn't have worried as the day was one of inspiration and up skilling.

So what have I learned ...

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I appreciated the initial introduction to the kaupapa and pedagogy that embodies Manaiakalani. This is something that I knew a little about but it was good to get a full overview of the history of Manaiakalani.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Just working in this forum in its self will force me to face my digital demons and fears. Like many of us, I tend to like to master a skill before putting myself out there. So this Learn, Create, SHARE approach will help me step out of my comfort zone in a more public way, however, thanks to the Manaiakalani Team I felt safe and supported throughout the whole day. My confidence and capability can only improve with the time and revision that I will have to do to keep up.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Accessing and using all the amazing resources and world of knowledge that is out there is the initial key to growing 'Life Long Learners.' Planting that seed of curiosity and excitement to learn new things at their own pace, in their own way, when and where they want to, about things that interest them. So all the revised skills and the new skills I've learnt today will be reflected in the teaching and learning that happens in the classroom.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Hopefully, I will become more efficient in my work life allowing me more time for my personal life. Happy Days.

I used Google Doc's to created this poster that I will use with my Te Wherowhero students. Our current Inquiry Topic has an Olympic Games focus. I can see I need to improve on my 'layout skills', everything's slightly leaning to the left. Oh well it's a work in progress, a bit like myself!
Until next Friday....
